WOMADelaide 2009 line-up announced
From 6–8 March, 2009 Adelaide’s stunning Botanic Park will once again be transformed for two nights and three days, showcasing 380 spectacular artists from more than 30 countries. Music and dance performances and workshops across seven open air stages, alongside over 100 international food, crafts and display stalls, street theatre, performance installations, visual arts, KidZone, forums and more.
In 2009, we are privileged to welcome Egypt's stunning Natacha Atlas who has an exceptional ability to fuse musical styles as incongruent as Hindi Pop, R&B and Rock. From Nigeria, Seun Kuti, the youngest son of the great Fela Kuti, brings his vibrant and raw energy headlining of the renowned 16-piece funk Orchestra Egypt 80.
Joining artists from China, Portugal, Cambodia - from all over the globe - are the very best Australia has to offer. The ARIA Award-winning Adelaide outfit The Audreys return to WOMADelaide along with the county's favourite jazz, Latin hip-hop fusion artists The Cat Empire; while the sublime voice of North East Arnhem Land's Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupnigu will resonate throughout the park and leave audiences spellbound." Celebrating 17 years in 2009, the 13th WOMADelaide festival will once again be at the forefront of sustainable arts festivals with a highly successful series of green initiatives, including a continued partnership with Greening Australia and the implementation of a Zero Waste policy.
